The 3-dimensions of asie.one, an exhibition by Olli Fraenkel, running February 9 to April 2, 2012, sees a different direction for Ganesha in more ways than one. This independent fine art gallery, ensconced within Four Seasons Resort Bali, Jimbaran Bay, is not only staging its new-format bimonthly exhibitions for the first time – allowing more time for artists to showcase their work – but also its first graffiti art exhibition. Unlike Europe, where there’s a huge graffiti scene, or even elsewhere in Asia, Indonesia hasn’t got much of a graffiti presence to speak of, and graffiti art has only recently evolved as part of the contemporary arts scene.
“This is not only the first time Olli has exhibited with us,” explains gallery manager, Luh Resiki, “but it’s also very different to what Ganesha usually exhibits. However, we were very interested in what we saw at the initial selection stages.” This also ties in with Ganesha’s philosophy of supporting the work of international artists residing in and inspired by Indonesia – not forgetting that the Hindu God, Ganesha, is also known as the “Remover of Obstacles”.
