The 3-dimensions of asie.one, an exhibition by Olli Fraenkel, running February 9 to April 2, 2012, sees a different direction for Ganesha in more ways than one. This independent fine art gallery, ensconced within Four Seasons Resort Bali, Jimbaran Bay, is not only staging its new-format bimonthly exhibitions for the first time – allowing more time for artists to showcase their work – but also its first graffiti art exhibition. Unlike Europe, where there’s a huge graffiti scene, or even elsewhere in Asia, Indonesia hasn’t got much of a graffiti presence to speak of, and graffiti art has only recently evolved as part of the contemporary arts scene.

“This is not only the first time Olli has exhibited with us,” explains gallery manager, Luh Resiki, “but it’s also very different to what Ganesha usually exhibits. However, we were very interested in what we saw at the initial selection stages.” This also ties in with Ganesha’s philosophy of supporting the work of international artists residing in and inspired by Indonesia – not forgetting that the Hindu God, Ganesha, is also known as the “Remover of Obstacles”. Surf spots in and around Cherating provide different levels of severity which suits beginners,intermediate,advanced and longboard surfers.The consistency and perfect sand-bottom point breaks, starting from chest height up to 5 ft.Especially the friendly long point breaks(rides up to 500 meters) send a surfers soul to heaven.The wave conditions in Monsoon are awesome.The fact that this surf spots ares still uncrowded, is another reason to pay Cherating a visit.The coastline up north provides another few spots to discover.Just make sure you stick with the locals.But nothings easier than that.In case of friendship and partying hard together, it is be almost impossible to find a better place on this planet.

My first destination in Asia was Cherating/Malaysia and even i live in Bali, which is one of the top places for surfers from all over the world, im still in love with this malaysian glory.The season starts November and ends in March.And this year seems to be one of the most consistent surf seasons ever.

The local surfshop Satu Suku in Cherating asked me to create a logo and paint a mural as a shop renovation was planned.

a little bit of history

Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since around Neolithic times.
These tattoos were thought to be a form of healing because of their placement
which resembles acupuncture.
Pre-Christian Germanic, Celtic and other central and northern European tribes
were often heavily tattooed.
Even Julius Caesar described these tattoos in Book V of his Gallic Wars.

Tattooing in the Western world today has its origins in Polynesia, and in the
discovery of tatau(“tattoo” in samoan) by explorers in the eighteenth century.
The Polynesian practice became popular among European sailors,before it
spreaded to Western societies.

“DARA” Perth/Australia
Today 6th August a mate from Perth/Australia got inked at Bali Angel Tattoo Studio.
On thursday he asked me to sketch the lettering “Dara” and this morning he got it done.
The shading works and outlines are well done and followed exactly my sketch.

Last week i received an email from a friend of mine with the result(photo) of a tattoo
he got from Thailand.He asked me for a sketch before he went there for holidays.
The Tattoo artist did pretty well and if you compare the sketch and the final artwork.
This dude worked quite exactly.He did a great job, as i think it’s hard to do outlines
as fine as this on skin.

Thanks for the photo, Alex.It’s an honor for me to see my works on skin and may our friendship
last as long as your tattoo….forever!

This painting shows the natural beauty of a so called Triggerfish.Combined with a 3d graffiti lettering (asieone)

The Triggerfish
The Triggerfish belongs to the the family “Balistidae” which consists of about 40 species of
often brightly colored fishes marked by lines and spots.
They can be found in tropical and subtropical oceans throughout the world, with
the greatest species richness in the Indo-Pacific.

What’s a Reef?
A reef is a rock, sandbar, or other feature lying beneath the surface of the water.
Many reefs result from abiotic processes—deposition of sand, wave erosion planning down rock outcrops,
and other natural processes—but the best-known reefs are the coral reefs of tropical waters developed
through biotic processes dominated by corals and calcareous algae.
Artificial reefs such as shipwrecks are sometimes created to enhance physical complexity on generally
featureless sand bottoms in order to attract a diverse assemblage of organisms, especially fish.

Geologists define reefs and related terms (for example, bioherm, biostrome, carbonate mound) using the
factors of depositional relief, internal structure, and biotic composition. There is no consensus on one
universally applicable definition. A useful definition distinguishes reefs from mounds as follows.
Both are considered to be varieties of organosedimentary buildups: sedimentary features,
built by the interaction of organisms and their environment, that have synoptic relief and whose biotic
composition differs from that found on and beneath the surrounding sea floor. Reefs are held up by a
macroscopic skeletal framework. Coral reefs are an excellent example of this kind.
Corals and calcareous algae grow on top of one another and form a three-dimensional framework that is
modified in various ways by other organisms and inorganic processes.
By contrast, mounds lack a macroscopic skeletal framework. Mounds are built by microorganisms or by
organisms that don’t grow a skeletal framework. A microbial mound might be built exclusively or primarily
by cyanobacteria. Excellent examples of biostromes formed by cyanobacteria occur in
the Great Salt Lake of Utah (USA), and in Shark Bay, Western Australia.(Wikipedia)

Enough the geologist talk and explanations about Reef.
Let’s talk about the main reason why we like this reef and should take care for it.
It creates waves and is a permanent obstruction that causes a wave to break,
and forms a barreling wave or other wave that can be surfed, before it eventually collapses.

Bali’s coral reefs have been severely damaged in recent years due to use of bombs and cyanide by fishermen,
excessively high water temperatures linked to global warming, and other stresses.

The project starts with the logo design in Adobe Illustrator.

After i began to paint the main mural inside.The design was more or less up to me.As most of the interior will consist

of wooden furniture and displays.I decided to give it a fresh “splashy theme”.The color choice brown/yellow makes sure

the concept doesn’t lose its style.With all of this we assimilate logo, mural and the signboard, which will be integrated after.

For the moment i’m painting the outside walls.

The outside will consist of two 3d graffitis and striped designs.Following the logo concept.
